Hypo-Stream History
In 2009, Hypo-Stream was set up by surgeon Myles Dakin as a privately-funded research project. Its early objective was to understand the reasons behind potentially groundbreaking phenomena observed in private clinical practice.
Myles’s early work began when he resurrected a body of historic research that showed promising outcomes, but was subsequently abandoned. Due to new scientific understanding and techniques, he was able to reinterpret old and identify new signals, working with Professor Richard Aspinall to demonstrate the key mechanisms of action behind what is now known as the M3 Small Molecule.
From 2010, Myles began filing patents and assembling a loose collective of Cambridge-based ‘friendly experts’ with backgrounds in commercial pharma, regulatory issues, immunology and healthcare commissioning. This group acted as a sounding board, helping to sense-make findings and understand the potential opportunity. Further filings followed, as well as Orphan designation for the M3-driven treatment for serious burns.
In 2020, Hypo-Stream launched as a commercial enterprise, heralded by the appointment of Dr Paul Jenkins as CEO. It has since formalised its leadership team. Since 2020, the focus has been on the development of our clinical focus approach and therapeutic pipeline, as well as commercial opportunities through understanding the immediate target market and articulating the multiple unmet needs that M3 can potentially address. The commercial roadmap is defined and Hypo-Stream has raised runway funds to further develop its IP portfolio and preclinical research.
